Laura Newman
Laura Newman is an abstract painter who lives and works in Brooklyn. She has received fellowships and awards from the American Academy in Rome, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Yaddo, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the New York Foundation on the Arts and Vassar College. She recently had solo exhibitions at Victoria Munroe Fine Art, the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and a two-person exhibition at 490 Atlantic Gallery. She has been included in group shows at Waterhouse and Dodd, the Abrazo Gallery at the Clemente, Arena, 72 Front Street,The Shirley Fiterman Art Center, Lesley Heller Gallery, The National Academy of Art, The Weatherspoon Museum of Art and The New Museum, among others. Publications include The Drawer, Revue de Dessin, Spring, 2017, a catalog from NSCAD University with essays by John Yau and Amy Sillman, and reviews in ArtCritical.com, Artforum, and Bomb.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and educated at Cooper Union, the California Institute of the Arts, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, she is an Associate Professor in the Art Department at Vassar College.
